Is your website Facebook-ified? How to be Facebook Ready

I’m on Facebook every day, so perhaps my recommendation to ‘Facebook-ify’ your website is premised on a certain amount of personal bias. But alas, I am not the only Facebook user amongst my network of friends who frequently adds website URL’s to their own profiles or their friend’s profiles.

For instance, my friend and I are looking for a martial art club that runs on a Tuesday night in Christchurch. We’ve copied and pasted URLs of various clubs onto our profile pages and left comments about the suitability of various clubs. Sure we could email each other or ring, but it’s just a much easier way for us to communicate.  So, using this manual cut and paste method, any website with a URL (that’s all websites that are live on the internet) can be added to someone’s Facebook profile for everyone in their friends network to view.

Now here’s the ‘but’. Internet users love convenience, so why not make it easier for people to add your website address to their profile by adding a Facebook / social networking link. Observant readers will notice that I have exactly this type of social networking links on my own blog. If you are a Facebook user try it out! Just click on the Facebook icon at the end of this post, if you are logged into Facebook a URL with a description of this blog post will be added to your profile (along with any images if in in the post). Pretty cool eh! And yes, it may be rather narcissistic but I have added Christchurch Daily Photo (my photo blog) posts to my Facebook profile.

If you are a WordPress user then just search for ‘social networking plugin WordPress’ and choose the one you like the best.  If you don’t use WordPress then check out www.addthis.com – where you can get a free social networking button to add to your website.
