Website technology now changes very rapidly, meaning websites are no longer ‘set and forget’.  So just like your desktop software, WordPress must be kept up to date to keep your site working optimally and to make it more secure.

Hosting Plus Care Plan

Care plans are a monthly commitment and can be cancelled with one month’s written notice. If you cancel, you will then have one month to arrange new website hosting before the site is deleted from our server.

One Small Content Update

A small content update will be changing contact details, publishing a blog post, or update a few images each month. Anything that will take 10 minutes or less.

Hosting

Web Matters will host your website. The website will be allocated up to 10GBs of disk space – which will suit the needs of most small to medium sized business websites.

Free SSL Certificate

Go from http:// to https:// with a free Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificate. An SSL Certificate adds the green lock to the browser address bar.

WordPress Software Updates

Whenever there is a major update to WordPress or a security alert, we’ll update WordPress, the plugins and themes.

Off Site Backups

Daily off-site backups to the cloud.

Database Optimisation

WordPress stores information in a database and over time the database can get slower to respond, so each month will optimise the database.

Security Scanning & Enhancements

Each month we’ll run a scan to check that the site does not have malware on it. We’ll also install a WordPress security plugin that will help to protect the website from intrusions.

Uptime Monitoring

We’ll add the site to an up-time monitoring service and we will receive the notification if the site goes down. We’ll then investigate why it’s down.

Access to Commercial Software

Get access to the commercial WordPress plugins we have developer licensing for.

Training Videos

Video tutorials are one of the best ways to learn how to update your site. So, when you log into your WordPress admin you will be able to view dozens of instructional videos.

Site Restoration & Minor Bug Fixes

If the site is damaged we'll restore it from one of the backups. We'll also do minor bug fixes or replace plugins if they develop issues.

Priority Support via our Help Desk

You’ll email our help desk – so that your request is ‘logged’ and a ticket is raised. This means your request doesn’t get lost in our email in-box and we can get information on how long the support ticket has been open for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the site be hosted?

It will be hosted with a company we use on our account.  You can choose between having the site located within USA, Europe, or the Asia Pacific region.

Do you do email as well?

No we do not. This is due to the high level of support required for email. For an excellent all in one email, storage and office solution we highly recommend G Suite by Google. Alternatively, ask your IT support person to set you up with an email service.

Can I use the free SSL Certificate on an e-commerce website?

No. You will need a stronger certificate for that.

Can’t I just do the WordPress updates myself?

Well, you certainly can if you are super keen, but the updates are not always problem free and it’s probably not the best use of your time. If things do go wrong and we’re doing the updates, we can fix the problem at the same time or roll the site back to the last backup.

Why do I need an ‘offsite’ backup?

Almost all web hosting companies state within their terms of service that their backups are not guaranteed and should not be relied upon as a primary source to restore your website. That includes the company we buy our hosting from. Plus, it’s always good IT practice to have a 'redundant and offsite' solution in place as well. By offsite, we mean that it’s stored in the cloud and away from your hosting.

Can you guarantee my site won’t be hacked?

No, we can’t. While we will take steps to reduce the risks, there will still be things outside of our control that can overwhelm a website or the server it is on – and online security threats are ever evolving.

Will you fix my site if it gets hacked?

We will restore your site to a clean backup and then change all the logins. If the site continues to be hacked, you may need to buy an additional clean up service from a 3rd party company that specialises in this area.

Will the monthly updates help with my search engine rankings?

Google likes sites that are kept fresh and up to date, so yes, adding new content can help with the site’s rankings (though nothing is guaranteed). If knowing where you are positioned on the search engines is important to you, you should consider going onto our premium plan as that includes a monthly report on your positioning.

What if I need more work done than is covered by the plan?

This work will be additional and billed at our normal hourly rate. If we estimate the work will be more than 10 hours to complete, we will send you a quote or an estimate.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, you can. We’ll need one months’ notice in writing of your cancellation (an email will be sufficient). You'll need to arrange alternative hosting before the final month is up.

Can I save up my content update hours?

No. The time allocated for content updates does not ‘roll over’ to the next month, and if updates are requested that exceed the time allocation they will be additional. The goal here is to make incremental changes to the site that will help each month.

The Challenges

Old Content - Websites that are infrequently updated leave a poor impression on website visitors - which can negatively impact on the effectiveness of your website.

Old Software: WordPress is software and as such it needs to be updated as new versions of it are released.  Out of date versions of WordPress and WordPress plugins in particular, can develop vulnerabilities that can be exploited in different ways. The website may become unstable, unreachable or infected with malware or spam advertising.

Security: Even if anything is up to date, intrusion attempts may still be made on your site.

The Solutions

Content Updates & Bug Fixes - we'll email you at the beginning of each month and find out what fresh content we can add to the site. To make life easier, we can even check on your Facebook page and take content from there. Any little bugs that creep into the site will be found and fixed.

Software Updates - we'll keep all of the software plugins and themes up to date. We'll be automatically notified when a plugin needs updated and tend to it asap.

Security: We'll put certain safeguards in place to help protect your website. Each plan offers a slightly different combination of security measures depending upon the level of risk you are prepared to take with your website investment.
